The Fernie Mountain Bike Guide, published August, 2010 by Claris Media, has sold 993 books to date and is currently increasing its distribution base to communities in the Kootenay region and in Canmore and Calgary with a goal to triple that number by August, 2011 and to expose mountain bike enthusiasts in these areas to Fernie’s incredible network of trails. 25% of every Fernie Mountain Bike Guide goes to Fernie’s biking community, and on June 10, 2011 Claris Media cut its first cheque to the Fernie Trails Alliance in the amount of $4318.08.

“When Vanessa {Croome} and I decided to publish The Fernie Mountain Bike Guide, we wanted to make sure that it would directly benefit the biking community,” says Krista Turcasso, Claris Media. “There are so many individuals that put countless hours into Fernie’s trail network, the majority of these hours by donation, whether to maintain current trails, build new ones, gather GPS data, educate the riding community, maintain partnerships with land owners and parks, and so on. We had the help and support of the Trails Alliance – made up of the Fernie Trail and Ski Touring Club and the Fernie Mountain Bike Club – from the beginning and throughout the project and are happy that we can return that support and show our appreciation through this publication,” she adds.

The Fernie Mountain Bike Guide is available at Polar Peek Books, The Gear Hub, Ski Base, Straightline, and The Guide’s Hut in Fernie, BC. It’s also available at these locations outside of Fernie:
