Fernie’s own Ella Fuller has skied her way into history, becoming the first-ever Canadian National Champion for the Fernie Nordic Society by winning gold in the U16 category on Day 1 of the Nationals held in Canmore! On day 2 Ella won her second National Title!
In an outstanding performance, Ella led a dominant contingent of BC skiers, with four British Columbian girls placing within the top six. This historic win not only highlights Ella’s exceptional talent and hard work but also showcases the strength of the region’s Nordic skiing development.

The community spirit and support behind Ella’s journey have been remarkable. “It takes a community… and many hands make light work,” expressed the Fernie Nordic Society in celebration of Ella’s achievement.
Megan Lohmann, Nordic Society President, comented, “Not only is she an incredible athlete, but she contributes back to the club, helping to coach our Skills Development Program. She’s an inspiration to our young skiers. Thanks to her parents Helen and Dave that also contribute countless volunteer hours to Fernie Nordic Society. We simply wouldn’t be who we are without them. A massive shoutout to Johnny Shaw for making our race program grounded in community and team spirit while also encouraging excellence in the sport.”
Congratulations to Ella Fuller and all involved for placing Fernie proudly on Canada’s Nordic skiing map!
