Fernie Ghostriders VS Columbia Valley in exhibition hockey marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Riders hockey in Fernie.

Fernie is in a new league now — Junior A hockey has arrived! Get out and support the Ghostriders as they hit the ice for their first exhibition action of the new season.

In April 2026, the British Columbia Hockey Conference (BCHC) was launched as British Columbia’s Hockey Canada and BC Hockey-sanctioned Junior A league.

The 22-team league gives B.C. athletes the opportunity to play sanctioned Junior A hockey in their home province and compete for the Centennial Cup, Canada’s national Junior A championship.

The BCHC competes under the Western Canadian Development Model in partnership with the Western Hockey League and Hockey Canada branches and Junior A leagues in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The league is also working through the application process to become a member of the Canadian Junior Hockey League.
