Environment Canada has issued a Rainfall Warning in effect for the Elk Valley near Fernie.

Rain, at times heavy, is expected throughout Monday. Rainfall amounts of 50 mm by Tuesday morning. Rising freezing levels and melting snow may increase river flows and give rise to localized flooding.

A frontal system will approach the southern interior tonight and stall over the Kootenay region on Monday bringing heavy rain to the region. Rainfall amounts of 50 mm are expected before the rain eases on Tuesday morning.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
