Saturday morning there was a moose on the Red Tree cat road traverse at FAR.

The snow pack is now deep enough that moose will venture onto the cat roads for ease of winter survival.

Doesn’t look like Gorby or any other auxiliary roads have been groomed for the resident moose population.

Hopefully FAR will be proactive this season and execute a plan that will minimize skier and moose encounters.

I have a private house with an attached suite.

The house is between the ski hill and the town. We have 2 kids , 6 & 8, and live a quiet life.

The suite is furnished and private. It is not advertised as we are being selective.

PM me if you wish to discuss further.

Around 3 am Sunday morning someone called 911 and said the boy could be found in his home, which had been cordoned off and unoccupied. When police got there they found Kienan sitting on the couch with a blanket.

"To the person who returned Kienan safely, I just want to say thank you. It was the right thing to do," the CBC quoted Kienan’s father Paul Hebert as saying.

"Kienan is happily home, and he’s playing with his brothers and sisters."

Police are asking Randall Hopley to contact them.

Fernie is a one hour ride from the Cranbrook airport.

The ski-hill has some ski-in ski-out however staying in town is recommended as all the services, entertainment, local culture and attractions are based in town. The drive from town to the ski-hill is only 5 minutes. :D

WOW, lets hope that this is true.

FAR needs a better perch for their avalanche team and we will appreciate a new lift!!

This would give Fernie the highest lift access in the Rocky Mountains.

Snow sitting on your roof provides insulation value and is not going to avalanche on your kids or vehicle in the driveway.

Metal is fine on a steep pitch roof where the snow slides frequently into a predefined space i.e. not your walkway. On a low angle metal roof the snow collects and slides only during large avalanche cycles. These large slides can damage property or seriously hurt somebody.

Metal and shingles cost about the same. The correct choice depends on your roof angle, roof strength, path of potential slides, insulation, and ventilation.

A good material choice as well as other factors is something that a building contractor can help you with. Define what your requirements are and then work with the roofer(s) that the contractor recommends. This policy should keep you safe from using a roofer that is inferior or does not honour their work.
