On Saturday October 19, 2013 owner Patty Reedyk will host an event from noon until 4pm celebrating the 20th anniversary of Polar Peek Books and Treasures. She was the first employee when the shop opened in 1993 by locals Anne Anderson and Laura Nelson. Patty has been the sole owner/operator for the last 5 years.

“This anniversary is about celebrating community” says Patty. “This place wouldn’t be what it is today without the support of my wonderful employees, past and present, the public who shop here and the authors who have held literary events here.”

This is evident once you learn what the day holds for its participants. An invite has gone out to past owners, staff and authors for an informal afternoon of visiting, celebrating and reminiscing. Kids can enjoy a scavenger hunt, while adults visit with authors, enter the many draws for great prizes and enjoy a piece of celebratory cake! A sale on select items in the shop will also be part of the day.

Polar Peek Books and Treasures has been a cornerstone in the community, supporting literary events at the Fernie Heritage Library, the Sparwood Library, and the Fernie Writers’ Conference. The shop supports authors and has hosted many reading events and book launches over the years, hosts a monthly book club and supports local charities whenever possible. The store offers a great selection of local hiking and biking trail maps and guide books, local history books, a large selection of local and Canadian authors, original art and is renowned for its selection of award winning children’s books and toys.
