The first snow fell today and the forecast is promising to dump loads more in coming days. It is November and Fernie lies in one of Canada’s best producing snow belts however public opinion remains divided.
There are many who are truly excited with the new snow. My kids played in the snow all day making snowballs and other creations. The newly arrived motley crew of ski bums, I’m not referring to the social club, are beginning to believe they made the correct choice as is evident by their huge grins. A percentage of active skiers are hoping for 30cms so we can ski tomorrow—today we had to ride our bikes…hopefully the last time until April!
Plenty of local Fernie residents detest the snow and wished they lived elsewhere. Why do they live here you might ask; summer—could be Fernie’s best season, community—people really care, and people generally like to complain regardless of how good life is.
On the positive side, the upper slopes have a starter base and the forecast looks promising. Any day, and hopefully tomorrow, we’ll be hiking up for our fist powder turns of the season!
