The Fernie Ghostriders home opener weekend delivered about as strong a start as the Riders could have hoped for, with back-to-back 4–0 shutout victories over Revelstoke and Columbia Valley.

After opening the season with three games on the road, the Ghostriders returned to Fernie and dominated defensively in their first two games in front of the home crowd.

On Friday against Revelstoke, goaltender Kael Svenson stopped all 25 shots he faced as Fernie outshot the Grizzlies 50–25 on the way to a 4–0 victory.

Dominic Rattai, Jaden Piper, Jackson Roberts and Boston Logan scored for Fernie in front of 636 fans.

The Riders followed that performance with another 4–0 win Saturday against Columbia Valley. This time Leo den Besten was perfect in net, stopping all 22 shots as Fernie held a commanding 54–22 advantage in shots.

Liam Breakenridge, Dominic Rattai, Hunter Jaman and Koa Percival provided the goals.

The consecutive shutouts have highlighted an impressive start for Fernie’s goaltenders. Den Besten is 3–0 with two shutouts and a .971 save percentage, while Svenson has a .944 save percentage and one shutout.

Head coach Chad Scharff was particularly pleased with the team’s commitment to playing at both ends of the ice.

“It’s been fun to watch this group early this season! They seem to be having fun doing the hard things. I really think that’s what makes this team great. The players are competitive and push each other to be their best.”

The scoring has also been spread throughout the lineup, with 14 Ghostriders already recording at least one point and Boston Logan leading the team in scoring.

After two shutouts in their first two home games, the Riders will look to continue their strong start in front of the Fernie crowd.
