1 Fernie and District Arts Station – Biennial Lantern Festival
“Rivers of Fire” will happen on Saturday, November 24 from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. in front of The Arts Station (601 1st Avenue). This will be a great evening of art and creativity enhanced by entertainment and fireworks.
The City of Fernie will again offer in kind support to the organizing committee in the form of barricades, road closures etc. We wish the committee the utmost success with the event.

2 B.C. Government and Service Employees Union
Mr. Gary Werk and Ms. Sandy Kurbis were in attendance to discuss with Council the provincial government’s plans to privatize the BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) warehouse and distribution system.
Council passed a resolution to call a moratorium on the privatization of the LDB distribution system.
3 Intention to Dispose of City Property
Council authorized the Director of Leisure Services to advertise Council’s intention to dispose of City property via a Lease Agreement with the Creative Energy Arts Factory for space in the Max Turyk Community Centre from September 1st, 2012 to April 30, 2013.
After the requisite advertising, the Lease will return to Council for consideration of approval.
4 2nd Annual Elk River Swim Drink Fish Festival
To honour the Elk River, raise awareness and promote stewardship of this precious resource, the Elk River Alliance is planning the 2nd Annual Elk River Swim Drink Fish Festival on September 29 and 30, 2012.
Council passed a resolution to make a special proclamation in honour of World and BC Rivers Day, the last Sunday, September 30, 2012.
5 25th Annual General Meeting of the Subscribers of the Municipal Insurance Association of British Columbia
Council appointed Mayor Giuliano as Delegate and Councilors Macnair and Krats as Alternates for the purpose of voting the City’s interests at the upcoming MIA AGM to be held Tuesday, September 25th, 2012 in Victoria during the 2012 UBCM Convention.
6 Bylaw No. 2192
Council adopted Bylaw No. 2192 cited as Zoning Bylaw No. 1750, Amendment Bylaw No. 136, 2012 which rezones Block A, District Lot 4137, Kootenay District, Plan 1623 located at 400 Bossio Road in Parkland Terrace from RR – Rural Residential to P2 – Parks and Open Space.
7 Bylaw No. 2194
Council adopted Bylaw No. 2194 cited as Zoning Bylaw No. 1750, Amendment Bylaw No. 137, 2012 which rezones Lot 6, Block 77, District Lot 4588, Kootenay District, Plan 734A located at 892 – 10th Avenue from R1 – Single Family Residential to R1SL – Single Family Residential Small Lot.
8 AKBLG – “For Richer or Poorer” Workshop
Members of Council and the Director of Financial and Computer Services will be attending the workshop “For Richer or Poorer” Building the Case for Taxation Tools on October 19, 2012 at the St. Eugene Golf Resort Casino in Cranbrook.
