It’s as true as the fact that cold beer and warm sun go hand in hand. Spring has sprung, resulting in a perpetual BBQ aroma, and the constant desire to crack open a bottle of Fernie Brewing Co.’s finest. As the ski hill comes to a close and Fernie residents look forwards to spring days, the team at FBC have also been fast preparing for a change in season with new products, exciting website developments and festivals galore to name but a few. And if spring proves anything like winter, then it’s a case of full steam ahead…
Spring kicked off with a new brew. Following in the stomping big footsteps of the Black Mammoth Winter Ale and after much deliberation, FBC’s new trusty springtime steed was decided upon as a Weizenbock. As Brewmaster Gord Demaniuk says, “Rusty Tractor Weizenbock is brewed with wheat, several malts, noble hops and Belgian yeast, resulting in a robust, rich, malty & unfiltered beer with exceptional complexity.” Coming in at 7.5% alc./vol., this unfiltered Weizenbock is like “bread in a bottle” and downright delicious. Rusty Tractor is presently available in Fernie and dispersing throughout Alberta at high speed. It will be hitting Stores in BC in coming weeks, so keep an ear open for rusty tractor rumblings in your area.
Although FBC aren’t ready to wish the year away quite yet, with lots of goings on in the Beer Festival department in coming months. Summer is ripe with festivals and events, promising great beer with a whole lot of good cheer. And what a way to start the season, than FBC bringing home the “People’s Choice Best Booth Award” at the recent Okanagan Fest-of-Ale! A popular festival with an eclectic mix of beer aficionados, well-known beer judges and top entertainment, with FBC also taking runner up in “Best IPA” category.
Better yet, if you’re planning a trip to Fernie, Fernie Brewing Co. will be switching to summer hours as of June 1st. The store will be open Monday through to Saturday 1-5PM, with tours running 1 & 3PM Fridays. And if the prospect of award-winning good cheer and cold beer are not enough to entice you in, then sit back, pour yourself a beer and check out Fernie Brewing Co.’s recent promo video, by the awesome local talent that is Dylan Siggers.
Proving it is as simple as “Good beer in a good town”.
