Fernie Boil Water Notice: The City of Fernie says a temporary solution has been found to address the electrical failure at the James White Park Wells, but the Boil Water Notice remains in effect while required water sampling and lab analysis are completed.
The City has transitioned the municipal water system back from the Fairy Creek water supply to the James White Park Wells after finding a temporary fix for the electrical failure.
Residents are advised to drink boiled water or use a safe alternative until further notice. Water intended for drinking, washing fruits or vegetables, making beverages or ice, or brushing teeth should be boiled for one minute.
The Boil Water Notice will remain in place until lab analysis confirms the water is safe to drink. The City says the process is expected to take a minimum of 48 hours.
Residents who would like to receive automatic email updates on water quality can contact operations@fernie.ca or call 250-423-6817 to register.
Public facilities are required under B.C.’s Drinking Water Protection Regulation to display Boil Water Notice posters in common areas, post sink notices at every sink or drinking water fountain accessible to the public, and verbally advise clientele of the notice as opportunities arise.
