The off season began a little early for Will Verner’s liking  and the Coach/ GM has wasted little time in retooling his roster for next year. In the last week Verner has shed his team of three twenty year olds in Matt MacDonald, Darrell Bolden and Zach Fridella and brought in nineteen year old Cole Peterson for next season. With those moves there are only three potential twenty’s for next season in Steve Wolff, Mike Wiest and James Werner, and we don’t know if they are for sure continuing their junior careers. As of now the teams can carry 4 twenty year old players. The other leagues can have 6.

MacDonald ( photo to the left) and Boldon were considered top players earlier in the season but MacDonald fought injuries for the last two seasons that probably cost him an all-star selection and turned him into a tradable player. When he was healthy he was sure fun to watch. Meanwhile Boldon had games where he was pretty good and he scored a few nice goals along the way but it turns out he was a rental and is headed back to Invermere.

Here’s the press release.

The Fernie Ghostriders and Coumbia Valley Rockies have cleared up the futures deal from the trade made December 11 2009. Matt MacDonald has been traded to Columbia Valley and the CHA playing rights of Darrell Boldon have been traded back to Columbia Valley. Boldon photo to the left

We wish Matt the best of luck with his new team. We really enjoyed having Matt as a Ghostrider and thank him for his two years of playing hockey in Fernie. Good luck Matty.
We wish Darrell good luck back in Invermere. We hope Darrell enjoyed his time in Fernie. We enjoyed having Darrell for the short time and wish him well for his 20 year old season.

Zach Fridella -photo to the left- was moved for a younger player. Fridella had a few outstanding games, scored 26 goals and was a fan favourite. Fridella was also a game star seven times. His aggressiveness will be missed.

See the press release below.
The Fernie Ghostriders have trading the CHA playing rights of Zach Fridella, 1990 and Future Considerations to the Kerry Park Islanders of the VIJHL for the CHA playing rights of Cole Peterson, 1991.
We thank Zach for his contributions both on and off the ice. Good luck on the Island Zach.
Cole Peterson is a 6′ 185lbs skilled hockey player that can score. This past season Cole finished 4th in VIJHL scoring and added another 9 pts in 11 playoff games. To go along with his skill, Cole has won a provincial championship with the Kerry Park Islanders Midget team. Adding a player that has won a provincial championship is important and we will continue to look to add more players with championship experience. We have high expectations for Cole and expect him to be a part of our core group to bring a provincial championship to Fernie.
