there is no fido service at all in fernie. fido is a city centre oriented cellular option. the closest fido service area is calgary and then vancouver on the other side of things. when moving to fernie, you’ll have to explore other cell phone companies, such as telus mobility, bell mobility, or rogers at&t.
seParticipanti agree completely. when i walk my dog, she’s always on a leash for her safety. she’s a friendly dog, but a little too friendly and is prone to approaching everyone else and their dog and because she’s large, that can be extremely intimidating. i know how i feel when big dogs run up to me…especially when i have my dog leashed as well! however, there are certain places, at certain times, that i let my dog run off leash and chase a stick and have some freedom. i always carry my leash, and when i see fellow dog walkers, cyclists, joggers, or people just strolling on these trails, i leash her well before there is any chance for her to have the opportunity to visit. i just feel that it’s common courtesy because not everyone likes dogs or is comfortable with being approached by a strange dog. tmrinas i find it appalling that your well controlled dogs were a source of irritation by people who let their dogs run off leash…that’s pretty rude considering their dogs were off leash to begin with!
seParticipantactually…you can find a decent party dress at the odyssey or at the kloset – they’re not the cheapest places in the world but they have stuff that would be decent for fancy dress. also, try the NU Place – i hear they make some pretty cool custom clothes. worth checking out!
seParticipantdefinately yes!!! just like everyone else, i take my animals to the steeples vet clinic that’s an hour away. what i like about them, is that like yourself, they also practice the holistic side of things. i have tried the vet in town and i just don’t like the blase attitude and it’s extremely pricey. also, recently, my mother had to take her dog to be euthanized. she too, uses steeples but it was something that had to be taken care of immediately in fernie. we had an appointment in the morning, waited 30 painful minutes before we were tended to. it was a little insensitive. so all in all, i will continue to take both my cats and dogs to cranbrook unless something changes. i would love to have a vet closer by in case of emergency. you should try us out – we’ll most likely give you a try!!!
seParticipantandy…you can buy a pay as you go cell phone at the local telus mobility shop – there is only one in town. there are no rogers att&t dealers in the valley (hhmmm fancy that, huh tigermilk?) as they’ve all closed down and/or quit dealing with rogers and bell mobility doesn’t offer a pay as you go. just ask around and you’ll be directed to the local telus mobility shop. tigermilk…your sarcasm wasn’t lost on me but as it is the lowest form of humour, i choose not to respond to it. it’s healthier to be happy and have a sense of humour.
seParticipanttigermilk, tigermilk, tigermilk…we are all just stating our opinions and experiences in order to help the original author of this string. no use in getting your knickers all in a twist and contradicting yourself! anyway, i’ve trained and worked for both rogers att&t AND telus and am extremely familiar with the coverage and the tower placement and whatnot. an industry fave is definately telus mobility for the coverage, particularly in smaller centres and fringe areas. but that’s just MY experience! i also do my own laundry and cleaning and own my own car so i don’t require those extra perks – plus i’d rather sacrifice those things for great coverage.
seParticipantContrary to tigermilk’s response, I would like to inform you that the Telus Mobility network is your best bet for cellular in Fernie. It is a CDMA network and it is built for coverage, not density, which is what we need with our mountains. The Morrissey Ridge tower is straight across from the ski hill and you can pretty much get coverage all over the hill…Rogers…no. There is one 10 minute deadspot just passed Elko and from there on in, the service is fabulous. Telus Mobility also covers right through the Crowsnest Pass as well due to a couple of towers up at Greenhills. The reason Telus Mobility is the popular network is because they have excellent coverage in smaller centres, as well as highway stretches when the terrain allows it.
