The City of Fernie’s Official Community Plan (OCP) update has just been completed and adopted by Council on June 23, 2014. The previous plan was last updated in 2002. Mayor, Council and staff would like to thank the many community organizations, committee volunteers, stakeholders and public for providing input to ensure the plan reflects the community’s vision for the future!
Over the last year and a half, more than 700 residents took part in public engagement activities and opportunities to share their vision of Fernie in the future. City staff and consultants also worked closely with a volunteer Official Community Plan Advisory Committee (OCPAC) and Design Review Panel through a four phase update process.
Mayor Giuliano noted, “The Official Community Plan update was a community-driven process. We are pleased with the level of public participation and confident that the outcomes reflect the goals expressed by the community”. The plan guides the growth of our community and provides a policy framework and implementation strategy for Council by addressing critical issues such as housing, transportation, parks, economic development, the natural and social environment, and infrastructure.
