The Fernie Ghostriders welcome you to the 2014-2015 KIJHL season at their home opener this Saturday, Sept. 27th.

The team has made several changes to for the 20014-15 season and the biggest change you’ll see is on the bench. The new Head Coach and General Manager is Craig Mohr. Fans will remember that Mohr coached the Riders in 2004-06 before moving on to coach several different teams in two different leagues and was most recently an assistant Coach and GM with the Calgary Canucks. When Coach/GM Dale Hladun’s contract wasn’t renewed at the end of last season Mohr applied and was hired. Barb Anderson is now in her second year as the Ghostrider’s President.

The first thing Coach Mohr did when he came to Fernie was hand over the Captain’s C to Dylan Robertson who is now in his fifth and final year with the Team. Aaron Neufeld, Travis Thomsen and Joel Burgess are the assistant Captains this year as well.

The Riders have several returning players on the roster this season. Dylan Robertson, Travis Thomsen, Kale Johnston, Joel Burgess, Aaron Neufeld, Spencer Bender, Cole Keebler and Randy Teeple. The Assistant Coaches are Shawn Potyok, James Ouimet, Gerry Pang and Jeff Zmurchyk.

Saturday’s Game

After last weekend the Ghostriders had a 3-1 record. They won 7-1 in Kelowna, 3-2 in North Oakanagan but lost 3-1 in Summerland last weekend.The Riders were in Invermere last night. Randy Teeple, Cole Keebler and Spencer Bender are day to day with injuries.

The Golden Rockets are at home to Beaver Valley Friday night and had a 3-2-0-1 record after last weekend. They won last weekend vs Creston but lost at home to Osoyoos.

Brandon Butler got his first win in net for the Riders in the 3-2 win in Armstrong, he was the coaches pick for player of the game. Dylan Robertson scored a shorthanded goal in Kelowna, he scored 4 of them last year. Jeff Orser got the win in net in Kelowna and was the player of the game. Justin Peers was the player of the game in Summerland. Forwards Sam Plaquin, Dylan Robertson and Justin Peers each had 4 points in the first four games while Tyler Rebelato leads the defense with 3 points. Sixteen year old Cavin Tilsley was the coaches player of the game in Kelowna and has 2 points in his first four games. When Tayler Sincennes got in his first KIJHL fight his Twitter fan club exploded with well wishers…old time hockey. Saturday will be the first time Rider D man Dustin Watt has played against his former team.

The Ghostriders next home game is next Saturday October 4th vs Summerland.
