Mayor Randal Macnair officially re-opened Fernie’s main street today with help from the Fernie’s Fire Department and their 1928 Studebaker Commander.
The Victoria Avenue Centennial project was started in order to commemorate Fernie’s 100th birthday, in 2004. The revitalization of the downtown has created a vibrant, dynamic pedestrian area with wider sidewalks, ambient historic lighting, convenient bike racks, and beautiful landscaping. Soon to come are several sets of benches for seated areas.
Fernie has also gained a new Centennial Plaza, on 6th street adjacent to Victoria Avenue, perfect for outdoor festivals from concerts, to plays, to special ceremonies.
