Netball, one of the world’s most dynamic and inclusive team sports, continues to thrive in Fernie as the Fernie Netball Club prepares to launch its anticipated 2025 Winter League. Since its introduction to Fernie in 2015, netball has steadily gained popularity, bringing together players of all ages and abilities for a fast-paced and community-driven sporting experience.

Netball originated in England in 1895, evolving from early versions of basketball. It quickly grew in popularity, particularly in Commonwealth nations, where it is now played by millions of people across the globe. Countries such as Australia, New Zealand, and England dominate the international netball scene, with elite competitions like the Netball World Cup and the Commonwealth Games showcasing the sport’s global appeal.

Netball is unique in its focus on teamwork and strategy. Players work together to pass the ball through a ring without a backboard, relying on precision, coordination, and communication. The sport’s accessibility and inclusivity have made it a favorite for schools, recreational leagues, and competitive tournaments alike.

The Fernie Netball Club was established in 2015, introducing this exciting sport to the Elk Valley community. What began as a small group of enthusiasts has grown into a thriving league, welcoming players of all skill levels and fostering a strong sense of camaraderie.

Over the years, netball in Fernie has become more than just a game—it’s a way to bring people together. The league emphasizes inclusivity, with mixed teams and players of various ages, making it a truly community-oriented activity.

Netball is more than just a great workout—it’s a fantastic way to connect with others, improve teamwork, and develop new skills. The game’s emphasis on communication and strategy makes it accessible to players of all abilities, while its fast-paced nature keeps it exciting for everyone involved.

For Fernie residents looking to stay active this winter or try something new, the 2025 Winter League is the perfect opportunity to join a welcoming and vibrant community.
