1. Wapiti Music Festival
Council directed staff to provide the necessary assistance (as per submitted list of requests) to the organizers of the festival to ensure another successful event.
Tickets are $60 at the gate. $45 in advance
Festival schedule is:
Friday, August 10 from 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Saturday, August 11 from noon to 11:00 pm

2. A Special Occasion Liquor License was approved for the Fernie Heritage Cemetery Society to operate a beer garden in the enclosed area of Prentice Park as part of the Canada Day celebrations.
Hopefully everyone was able to get and enjoy the festivities and celebrate what a great country we live in.
3. 2011 Schedule of Remuneration and Expenses & Schedule of Payments to Suppliers of Goods or Services
Section 3 of the Financial Information Act requires that within 6 months after the end of each fiscal year of a corporation, it must prepare a statement of financial information for that fiscal year.
Schedule of Remuneration – (expenses for each elected official, member of board, cabinet appointees) includes any form of salary, wages, bonuses, gratuities, taxable benefits etc. These expenses include travel expenses, memberships, tuition, registration fees etc.
Schedule of Suppliers – does not include payments allocated to an employee, or more than one employee, for the purposes of employee expenses.
Council approved the Schedules which will now be submitted to the Province as part of the Statements of Financial Information which will also include the 2011 Financial Statements.
4. Official Community Plan Advisory Committee Terms of Reference
Council approved the revised Terms of Reference for the OCP Advisory Committee as recommended by the OCPIC committee at their June 19, 2012 Meeting. Their mandate is as follows:
The Official Community Plan Advisory Committee (OCP Advisory Committee) will advise the City of Fernie staff, the consultant and Council on the format, structure, and policies of the OCP Update, and support the principles and mandates of the City of Fernie.
5. Outdoor Patio Policy
Council approved the Outdoor Patio Policy to enable food and beverage establishments to site outdoor patios on on-street parking spaces and on a portion of the sidewalks in the Historic Downtown Core.

6. Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) – Long Term Infrastructure Plan
In March 2014, the Building Canada Plan will expire resulting in the loss of nearly $2 billion a year in federal infrastructure funding for local governments. In response, FCM is mounting a campaign, titled Target 2014: Building Our Future, to secure long-term infrastructure funding beyond March 2014.
Council has forwarded a letter to the Federal Government encouraging them to implement this plan which is essential to the prosperity of our communities and the overall economic competitiveness of Canada.
7. West Fernie Restructure Cost- Benefit Analysis
Council has approved the above noted item and has directed staff to prepare an amendment to the Five Year Financial Plan to accommodate a $10,730 funding contribution to the RDEK for a West Fernie Restructure Cost-Benefit Analysis with funding to come from the Unallocated Operating Reserve Fund, and further that the $5000 provincial funding obtained by the RDEK for City Consultation be allocated towards this Analysis also, and the request from the RDEK co contribute 50% of the cost of the Analysis be approved.
8. 5th Avenue Road Reconstruction Project – 9th Street to 13th Street
Council awarded the above noted project to Currier Contracting Ltd for the tendered price of $597,983.22 exclusive of HST.
9. 2011/2012 Annual Report
The province has introduced additional public accountability and reporting requirements for municipalities that being the preparation and presentation of an Annual Municipal Report
Council reviewed a draft copy of the 2011/2012 Annual Report and directed staff to have a copy available to the public for review. After the requisite advertising, the Report will return to Council at the Regular Meeting of July 23, 2012 for their consideration as well, they will consider any submissions or questions from the public at that meeting respecting the document before considering approval.
