fernie wildfire update

The Elk Valley Fires are no longer a threat to our communities. Bingay is being held and Lladner is under control. The fire Danger Rating throughout our region ranges from Low to Moderate, the danger rating map is above.

Another positive update is the lifting of the campfire ban. Effective at 1PM PDT on Friday, September 1, 2023, campfires are being allowed in Fernie and the greater Southeast Fire Centre. This area includes the Elk Valley and South Country.

BC Wildfire Service has worked tirelessly on these fire for weeks and we are grateful for all that they have done and continue to do.

Mount Bingay Wildfire:
• Size 2,512ha.
• This fire is currently Being Held.
• There are no current evacuation orders or alerts associated with this incident.
• There are no current area restrictions near this incident.

Sparwood’s Lladnar Creek Wildfire:
• Size 1,295 ha
• This fire is now listed as UNDER CONTROL.
• Crews are continuing to monitor for fire activity and movement.
• Increases and decreases in smoke will continue to happen intermittently over the coming weeks until this fire is classified as out.
• There are no current evacuation orders or alerts associated with this incident.
• There are no current area restrictions near this incident.
