1. Wapiti Music Festival

Fernie’s music festival kicks off for its 4th summer. The line-up features stellar indie rock bands such as July Talk, Zeus and Sidney York. Get an early start at the free pre-show on Thursday at the Arts Station with singer Wil. Local stoke-folk favourites Shred Kelly will also be performing at the Northern on Friday night. Weekend passes and single day tickets are available for purchase online. All tickets are Will Call which can be picked up at the gate, photo ID is required for proof of purchase.

2. Highline 100

A perfect event for all abilities, the Highline 100 is a fun bike ride, not a race, with 40km, 100km and 160km road ride options. The ride is for a good cause, which raises money for the Elk Valley Hospital, the Fernie Alpine Ski Team and F.I.R.E (Fernie Inspire The Race To Empower Society). Start time is 8am sharp from North Star Road (at Zumwalt’s) near Koocanusa. Package pickup is at the King Fir Lodge on Friday from 6 – 10pm. Registration includes entry, lunch, a cinnamon bun & coffee, ice cream from the 3/93 dairy bar, swag and an optional wind up dinner at the Corner Pocket.

3. Summer Socials

Don’t miss Fernie’s annual classic car show as a part of this Sunday’s Summer Socials. The Show N’ Shine edition will feature antique automobiles, children’s activities, food vendors, sidewalk shopping and more. Also check out the summer concert series this Wednesday featuring The Pickups, a father-son duo from Parsons.

4. Bippity Boppity Boo Children’s Festival

For those that are young and young at heart. This year features Circus West, a photobooth and bubble dance party with DJ Ray. There are also the usual favourites such as face painting, crafts, games, bubbles, gold panning, live music, sprinklers and more! The festival is a fun-filled 3 hours located at Fernie’s Rotary Park, which has a large playground and washrooms.

5. He/She Golf Tournament

Couples unite for The 36th He/She Golf Tournament. The event is a fun twist on the alternate shot, where each player tees off, plays each other’s ball for one shot, then picks the best ball to finish the hole. To register, call the pro shop at 250-423-7773 (deadline: Wednesday, August 6th). Entry includes golf, dinner and prizes!
