Greenpeace calls Alberta’s oilsands extraction project the biggest industrial project on the planet, occupying an area the size of England. A recent Greenpeace report projected the oilsands greenhouse gas emissions could soon more than triple to 140 million tonnes a year, making them equal to that of Belgium, a county of 10 million. The project is also criticized for local environmental degradation and the destruction of boreal forest.

At this time Fernie’s water issue is not supply but rather the content.

Organizations such as Teck, Fernie Alpine Resort, Fernie Golf Club, City Of Fernie, and development as a whole are polluting the Elk River.

This is why the Elk River is on the BC Rivers Endangered list.

    Self righteous…

The US government is now prohibited by law from purchasing crude produced in Alberta’s oil sands. California is making a similar pronouncement and a green Democratic government will likely push this policy further.

    Why?

Alberta’s tarry muck produces three times the emissions to produce as conventional crude.

    Dirty money?

The water is polluted by the excessive use of 2-stroke engines; quads and bikes during the shoulder seasons and boats in the water season.

Koocanusa has become a haven for motor heads that have zero empathy for the environment.

See the article in last weeks Free Press for a more detailed report on usage issues.

You gotta be kidding, “safe”? Safe for a 5 year old is soccer, the playground, the pool, a bicycle, etc…

Educate yourself Monster73 and be responsible. Children under the age of 14 are at great risk on motorized recreation vehicles. Especially quads.

You will meet other motor-heads that share your irresponsible child development philosophies. The sooner you move to Sparwood the better, in the short term – stay off our Fernie hiking and biking trails!
