Dyslexic father reads to his child:
The sad story of Rindercella and her sass lipper. She had two sad Blisters and a sticked wep stutter. One day she met a chinch parming (most likely in the cheese bussiness) at the boyal rall, but had to leave in a furry for hear of teing burned pinto an umpkin (I think that’s a close relative to the umpa lumpas). Thankfully she had lost one of her sass glippers and the prandsome hinse was able to bypass her sad blisters and they lived lappily heavy decafitor.

Tis the season for the story of the Crinch who stole Gristmas, but I don’t have the time.

Wishing you all a Merry Verry and a Nappy Who Near.
    Sincerely;
    Soctor Duece.

Has anyone noticed that when the hill was called snow valley we could always count on seeing lots of snow, but now that it’s Alpine resorts, You see alot more trees. Coinsidence (spell check on the fritz), Maybe not.
I saw a news report last week that says global warming is placeing the polar bears closer to the extinction mark than the endangered. Maybe we really need another golf course.
But in a world where fire fighters, fight fires and crime fighters, fight crime, what the heck do freedom fighters fight?
I’m sad to report that according to the environmental stats this year the Griz count is down yet the sasquach count is up. Maybe bigfoot ate our beloved snow bringer. Anyone think about that?
Maybe their should be a local conspiracy corner on this site. I’d be a yocal in no time.

It is a bylaw to be walking a dog on public access without a leash. If you take a few steps into the ditch though, I don’t think they can do anything. I have always had dogs and although people do become irritated when they see an animal walking without a leash they must understand that some animals are capable of being trained to heal, left, right, stop, okay, sit, stay, shake a paw, high five, and fetch a beer. Nevermind is also a great one word comand that I have found efficient when a dog has distraction issues with other animals and people. I Had a dog once that would not leve my side and although she was trained on a leash, once she was a few years old she wasn’t. On the otherhand, she was trained with other very well behaved dogs and in a larger city so the stop comand was understood to her as being for her safety at crosswalks etc.

Also as far I understand the field across from the old high school on second avenue has been allocated as a safe place to play fetch or whatever with your dog/s off the leash. All animals have their own personalities so be cautious introducing them (Even more when on the leash).
I beleive that a dog is more protective when on a leash because the leash is more of a possesion or control device for the dog. I do walk my dog on a leash and occassionally a muzzle (I’ve had STUPID people see my dog and stick there hands in her face), but I enjoy running my Husky cross down Cokato/Morrisey or putting on the snow shoes and trudging up through the provincial park. Living in West Fernie has it’s benefits as well, and I think my dog has actually been happier being able to socialize with and run in a pack with the other dogs enjoying the same freedom. She comes home when called and avoids the roads (most of the time- So slow down you speed demons).

I have heard that the new owner is quite possitive and experienced, having a couple other hotels around the same size. Mr. Ing told me himself that he had sold the hotel and condos with the exception of two or three which he kept for himself. A lot of the same old staff is there or back from leaving there due to finding more stable employment. I worked out there once myself. Never had a cheque bounce, but was never pleased when pay was not met on time. The New owner “Bob” has got a lot of repair work to do (staff and community morale, new menus, and local before international networking), if I can be frank.
I wish them and every other bussiness in town a prosperous new year. I think that the trick with larger hotels and bussinesses in general is that the owners seem to think too BIG. It’s a small town with a small annual population, and if you can target and co-operate with that market you won’t have to spend time trying to draw visitors, they might hear the good news from friends and family. If I ever operate a hotel, I would have tenencies of trusting my comunity and trying to gain their support, before venturing into foreign markets.
I’ve also heard rumors about the new owner still having to come up with X amount before such a time and if not the Hotel will belong to BillIng once more.
I think that all the hotels (Bars) in town should host hospitality nights all on different nights of the week so that the employees can network and mingle over a half dozen drink specials or so. Who knows, might get the creative juices flowing. And to the owners or management who forbid people to go out in uniform, or with a simple name tag from their place of employment, look at it as free advertising and also babysitting, if your staff doesn’t show up the next day, possibly not feeling well, call the pub and see if they recognized any nametags the night before.
Sure it might sound cruel or whatever, but I’m sure all the bars could share in the benifits possitively.

You can purchase atree from Shops such as Overwaitea or Contact the Local Beavers or Girl Scouts clubs. It is not a tradition to just chop down a tree, wherever you find one and I’m pretty sure local law enforcement and your neighbors might not be too happy with you if you do. Check with the Fernie Flower Shop on second ave off 8th st. Maybe Buy a Norfolk Pine Fern that looks just like a real tree, but with patience and care will still be alive next year. I’m not a tree hugger, I usually just put up an artificial tree and cover it in pinesol cleaner to give it the natural smell JK.

I have been a Fernie Local for 25yrs off and on and when it came time to have to rent a place I would provide reputable references. Being Frank, if I may (Frank is not my actual name) when taking applicants for a rental situation lay out the guidelines right there. No more than 500 people at any time. Non smokers prefered. No pets (including chemical dependants) Don’t ever tell your tenant that it’s okay to have your morning Toke and Coffee while your partner must have their cigar and tea outside. Collect rent every month and try to check on the place then. Fernie is a small enough town that if you have concerns with the people taking vest in your dwelling, ask the neighbors. Are there any bilaws for stray dogs out there? Maybe it’s just someone elses dogs. Probably not. Hope you don’t have dogs of your own they will try to lead them away. They shouldn’t get viscious but, they are probably used to a diet of rabbits. Might wanta get you some rabbits. A pet donkey could do the trick too I would think.

I have been a local Fernieite for more than twenty years and have always heard people bickering over costs. Welcome to reality I remember when a person could bring an empty soda can into a corner store and recieve five candies. Now a days a person would need five cans to get one candy, nevermind the tax. A loaf aof bread was less than a buck 4 years ago. Negative tones and words draw negative attention. A ski hill the size of ours obviously needs money in order to not only operate but improve. I wish that some of these people who are considering themselves as locals would stop, count to ten and look around you. The comfort created by the mountains all around us and a priceless view and experience. How many people come to our beautiful Valley as visitors and leave bitching about prices? Line ups? ANSWER: None. I strongly hope that their attitude is positive and their memories are great. Maybe one of the empty buildings on second ave should be renovated into a rubber room for all you anti local and anti tourism people. To the rest of you I say Welcome. Enjoy your stay and hope to see you again soon.
