Maiden lake wasn’t trashed by the locals. It was trashed by wind and garbage blowing from trash bins and people who prefer to throw their trash out the window of their vehicle while driving down the highway.
I do agree with preservation, but let’s simplify the equation :
This planet is supporting too much cattle and too many people.
carry on fellas, Just thought I’d Digress yas a bit. <
canatedianParticipantFernie is a great place to Live. I truly love going back to see the progress and changes that the town goes thru.
Even tho the cost of living is rising, people still consider it a popular choice.
canatedianParticipantI blame preservatives and SouthPark.
But scientists have claimed with the increase of heat attributed from global warming, our blood pressure has risen as well. You can’t have your cake and eat it too, unless you have no friends. Then I guess all you can do is sit and eat cake all by yourself.
Why do they call it Tourist Season if we can’t shoot them?
I would love to see some of these City people try to pull the attitude they display in some bars south of the Border. (Montana People don’t ask questions they Shoot first then reload).
canatedianParticipantA BCAA or CAA or AAA membership is probably less expensive and more useful than a block heater.
February 12, 2008 at 9:37 pm in reply to: wise people of fernie , please help answer my questions #15494canatedianParticipantTips for Tips:
1) Were you greeted with a smile?
2) Were you told of the special, Soup du jour?
3) Was your drink order served in a timely fashion?
4) Was the person dressed appropriate, clean shaven?
5) Did the person taking your order right it down, and make you aware of other options for side dishes or addons such as dressings etc.?
6) Did the person come back to your table within a few minutes of being served to make sure that everything was satisfactory?
7) When paying for your meal were you made aware of any promotions or discounts towards your next visit?
Was a tip requested either electronic (interac) or verbally (eg. credit card slip or outright asked by the clerk)?
9) Was the overall price for your dinning experience satisfactory?
10) Would you refer other people you know to the place in which you had dined? If you answer No to any any of these questions with the exception of #8 then Don’t feel obliged to give gratuity. Gratuity is that in itself. Were you thanked for your patronage by being greeted with a smile, and having your specific order taken care of by a person who truly cares about what you want?
#8 – Has to be my biggest pet peave. rather than ask the customer directly about a gratuity, the management leaves it up to the debit card P.O.S. machine to request a tip. When this happens to me (And I do Usually tip generously, unless service has been unsatisfactory, I use my mathematical mind to round off the change amount and leave the server the difference in change. (Eg meal + taxes = $12.47 means I round off the meal to $15.00 = $2.53 tip.) Sometimes if I have been given poor service, or the server seems preoccupied text messaging, or overwhelmed with the job and doesn’t write down my order, (I try to be specific with what I want, because I can) I leave them the difference in change $0.53.
Gavin is right. If the largest corporations and service industries paid their employees more fairly, the burden of tipping for a means of helping an employee survive would not be so much a moral issue.
When was the last time you tipped the gas jockey for filling your tank, cleaning your windshield and checking your oil?
When was the last time you tipped the grocery clerk assistant for bagging your groceries?
The madness must end!!!
Give Gratuity only if it is due.If you Want a job where you make decent cash for providing excellent service, get out on the road with a bucket and a squeegy. Or start diving through dumpsters collecting tax free recyclable waste from all the tourists that simply can’t be burden with having to fully educate themselves about no more of the environment than the world around themselves (Or so they claim).
PS. Home and contents insurance can be handled through many of the insurance businesses. (I suggest setting up a local bank account, and asking the bank if they can refer you to anyone in particular).
canatedianParticipantRegardless.
It’s just Nuts.
canatedianParticipantI think I read a similar post not too many moons ago. (RE: Teed off at the golf course).
Maybe just to make pessimist “Whathasferniebecome” happy, they should re-name the restaurant, “The Clubhouse Restaraunt”
I think they would really have to work on perfecting the triple toast, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato and cheese sandwich in order to keep the score par with the rest of the towns restaurants.
I like the idea of improving recreational places, yet Change takes time, and people adapt a lot better when the change is a gradual one.
As far as people claiming to have had a bad time or poor service, so far all I have seen posted is hearsay.
Also Aren’t the plans under way to create another golf course in the Coal creek area?
canatedianParticipantIsn’t it amazing? The antiques roadshow should go to Fernie.
It’s also amazing how open people are with their meditational experiences in BC. Enough talk about the old junk, lets hear more about the mushy visions.canatedianParticipantSomewhere in Australia there’s a village missing an idiot.
canatedianParticipantYup those pins are the biggest abomination since a bunch of businesses tried to capitalize on the Mogul Smoker. We should all feel a sence of comfort living in these mountains. Yet instead we give our money to MADD knowing damned well its just gonna spawn another uneducational, misleading, and most likely poorly researched TV commercial, or ad campaign. (Party Program is actually where the money went I believe)
Still I cant help but think, Isn’t there an easier way to encourage youth to not drink and drive? The belt or 2×4 comes to mind.
The money should go towards having some alternative energy sources placed in the area. We can build a lake, we just can’t keep it clean. Or maybe the city would be smart and put the money into a contest to win free rent for a year on second avenue. (Lets try and figure out how many pins we’d need to sell for that). This town sold out on itself when the Griz was removed as the Symbol for the hill. This society sold out on itself back in the early days of Esso Vs Macs.
Wonder how long before penguins start migrating here?
Quick Funny Fact a group of sheep is known as a clutch. There. You might have learned something.February 15, 2007 at 8:14 pm in reply to: Bill Bennett resignation On Wednesday, February 7, 2007 #15085canatedianParticipantI had a bumper sticker on my van once which read, “Politicians and the homeless. Both begging for inadequate change.”
Sad, If I do say so myself, that a local politician can’t restrain his anger over issues such as these without writing in a tone that is considered not so sweet. Sometimes we need to speak loud in order to be heard tho. I’m sad that Bennet did what he did, yet proud that he had the balls to do it. Just further proves my point that not enough people Vote.
He was speaking on behalf of so many concerned citizens which makes it justifiable that he was doing what we pay him to do.
I say close the border. And those of you who are whining about how bad the states influence is on our economy etc. Take a good look around. A new Walmart in Pincher Creek Alta for instance. this privatized highway bullshit. The problem is we can’t get ahead without bowing down to the country that believes everyone owes it something.
Being Canadian isn’t just a stamp on a certificate, or a birthplace. It’s far more complicated than attitude too. It’s believing that what we stand up for is right in our minds and for our future. Sadly if the US disagrees we’ll be in war with them cuz they believe people like Oprah.
Boycott whoever you want. But if you really want to make some waves start boycotting 711, Macdonalds, A&W, Subway, Boston Pizza, and all the other stupid franchises that do nothing more than make our country less original and make another country richer. I refuse to comment on much more than I know about, yet I could go on for days on this topic.
Don’t judge a person from where they’re from, judge them on their actions alone.
And while I’m on the topic of boycotting useless influence, think about how much syndicated tv we watch. Is it ours? Does it relate to us? Do we need to know what Idiots in another country think of certain celebrities and people? I propose EKTV but I’m sure its ratings will plummett with a new Jackass type series which will further rot the brains of generations to come.
Is this politics, or the Muppet show?PS. I’m in no way responsible for voting him in to start with. Maybe he ran outta good smoke during his letter writing.
canatedianParticipantI nominate the last poster. And also would like to add… Rock on!!

canatedianParticipantshame on those who hold Locals Only Parties.
One thing sadder than someone tring to break even for such an event is The lack of co-operation exibited by so many on this site in regards to the gathering.
I think I said last year after all the moaning and whining. Nows a chance to collaberate. Good to see The same crap now..
I miss the good old Toy runs and The motor inn to an extent, but I don’t stew about it. (Backroom cafe was cool too)
Now and here – A place for productive co-operatve guestures. Here’s a start :
What’s the technical Mogul Smoker Mixed drink? Lets start there shall we.
