Two Major Wakesurf Events

Koocanusa Village is hosting two major wakesurf events this weekend, starting with the Canadian National Wakesurf Championships and ending with the Competitive Wakesurfing Association (CWSA) North American Championships.

“This is going to be an action-packed weekend with incredible riding,” says organizing committee member Loree Duczek. “The Wake Canada Canadian Nationals, presented by SWS Marine Group, kick off Saturday morning and will feature riders in every division from the up-and-coming junior riders to Canada’s top surfers in the men’s and women’s pro divisions.”

The National Championships will be held on Saturday, September 7 at Koocanusa Village on Lake Koocanusa and will wrap up Saturday evening with an athlete dinner and live entertainment on the beach by Charles Benjamin. The excitement will continue on Sunday, September 8 as the Competitive Wakesurfing Association (CWSA) North American Championships get underway. This is a platinum event for riders competing on the CWSA circuit, and a big opportunity to earn points as they strive to qualify for the world championships in Switzerland in October.

These events follow the successful SWS Marine Group BC/AB Provincial Championships, which were held two weeks ago and featured over 60 riders from across BC and Alberta. Caroline Villeneuve from Fernie (above) came second in the Pro Female Combiined!

The public is invited to stop in and check out the incredible riding Saturday and Sunday at Koocanusa Village. “Bring a lawnchair and enjoy the music, food, and fun as we celebrate the wakesurf community and support all the riders who are so passionate about their sport,” adds Duczek.
