Gearhub is embracing its consignment roots by launching a new, larger dedicated consignment space with a broader selection of high-quality used gear.
The expanded consignment store will be located at Gearhub’s rental location on 7th Avenue, offering increased visibility and accessibility for both drop-offs and shoppers.
JC Fernier, Gearhub’s General Manager, has been focused on offering customers greater value while meeting the growing demand for sustainable shopping options. One opportunity stood out: expanding access to high-quality used gear.
“Fernie is full of people who love outdoor recreation, but the cost of staying equipped can add up quickly,” said Fernier. “We also see more and more customers who want to shop in a way that’s eco-conscious. Bringing back a full consignment option felt like the perfect way to support both affordability and sustainability.”
The new space will feature:
• Ski and snowboard equipment
• Bikes and bike accessories
• Hockey gear
• Watercraft, including SUPs and kayaks
• Outdoor equipment such as camping and hiking gear
• A large apparel section, from adult casual wear to kids’ clothing
• Footwear
• Toys, games and tools
Many residents will remember that Gearhub began 16 years ago with a strong consignment program. Selected consigned ski and bike gear will remain available at the downtown location; however, the new location will offer a much broader and deep selection of gear.
“We’re building a space that serves families, newcomers, adventurers and anyone looking for good gear without the cost of buying new,” Fernier explained. “And we’re not done—more categories will be added as we grow.”
Consignment Drop-Offs Begin in March
While the new space is being renovated, Gearhub will begin accepting drop-offs at both its main store and the rental location starting immediately. Items will be processed and prepared in anticipation of the April opening at the rental shop.
To maintain a high standard and differentiate the shop from traditional thrift stores, Gearhub plans to carefully review every item before it reaches the sales floor.
“Our goal is to provide a true retail experience with trusted, vetted products,” Fernier said. “This is about accessibility, sustainability and maintaining the high standards Gearhub is known for.”
As Fernie continues to grow and evolve, Gearhub’s renewed commitment to consignment aims to strengthen the local circular economy, reduce waste and offer residents an affordable way to stay equipped for the adventures that define life in Fernie.
