All dykes within the city of Fernie are holding and we are seeing some localized flooding due to ground water levels and storm sewers backing up. We anticipate an additional rise of approximately 20+ cm in the river level over the next few hours before it peaks.
James White Park, Annex Park and Dogwood Park remain closed. Sandbagging stations have been set up at the Public Works Yards located at 1492 Railway Avenue. Anyone wishing to volunteer is encouraged to contact the Public Works Yards at 250.423.2248.

Environment Canada officials have advised that a further 50mm of rain is expected over the next 24 hours.

Fernie residents are being asked to stay away from rivers, creeks and bridges until deemed safe. With the rising river levels, trees are falling in the parks and residents are encouraged to stay away from all parks until further notice.

Further updates will be provided as information becomes available. For further information please visit www.fernie.ca.
