The Fernie Canadian Tire refresh is complete after a five-month project to update the store inside and out, improve the shopping experience, and better serve local customers.

The project included a full exterior and interior refresh, an updated décor package, new fixtures, and a redesigned floor plan tailored to the Fernie market.

For Angus and Margaret McDonald, the Canadian Tire Dealers in Fernie, the project represents an important investment in the community they have served for the past 13 years.

The McDonalds said they are incredibly grateful for the support of Fernie residents and customers, and for the patience shown while the store worked through the renovation.

“We want to thank the community for giving us the opportunity to serve Fernie better, and for their patience as we worked toward this goal,” said Angus and Margaret McDonald. “We are also very grateful to our staff, who put in a tremendous effort throughout the project.”

The updated store layout has been designed to make shopping easier, with departments refreshed and organized around the needs of local customers. In a community where outdoor recreation, home projects, vehicle maintenance, seasonal living, and everyday essentials are all part of the shopping mix, the new floor plan is intended to better reflect how Fernie customers use the store.

The Fernie project also fits within Canadian Tire’s broader effort to modernize stores across the country. Canadian Tire Corporation has identified store investments, digital tools, electronic shelf labels, improved customer experience, and connected store technology as part of its ongoing retail strategy. By late 2024, the company reported that 39 Canadian Tire store refresh projects were expected to be completed that year, bringing the total to 120 since 2022.

Canadian Tire has also invested in tools designed to make shopping easier, including electronic shelf labels, digital wayfinding, and enhanced app-based shopping features. The Canadian Tire app allows customers to check in-store product availability, pricing, aisle locations, ratings, and reviews before or during a store visit.

The refreshed Fernie store also provides an opportunity to better showcase Canadian Tire’s core categories, including automotive, tools, home, seasonal, sports, recreation, and outdoor living. Canadian Tire’s owned brands include familiar names such as Mastercraft, MotoMaster, MAXIMUM, Yardworks, CANVAS, and WOODS.

For the Fernie store, the most important part of the project is local: creating a better shopping experience for the customers who have supported the store over the past 13 years.

“The support from this community means a great deal to us,” said the McDonalds. “This refresh is about improving the store for our customers and continuing to serve Fernie as well as we can.”
