Canadian Wakesurf & Foiling Nationals

Lake Koocanusa will once again be the center of Canadian watersports as riders from across the country converge for the 2025 Canadian Wakesurf & Foiling Nationals at Koocanusa Village.

This year’s event promises to be bigger than ever with the return of Foiling as an official division. Known for its futuristic look and unique riding style, foiling uses a hydrofoil mounted under the board that lifts riders above the water, reducing drag and creating a smooth, flying sensation. “We are excited to have foiling back this year and know these riders will add another level of excitement to the line up,” says organizing committee member Loree Duczek. “In addition to the Foiling, we will have a full roster of wakesurfing featuring skim and surf-style riding including everyone from the young up-and-coming Juniors to the Pros. From big air and technical wakesurf tricks to wild rides and backflips from the foilers, there will be some incredible riding on display.”

The Nationals will be hosted at Koocanusa Village, with registration open until September 2. Athletes can register here: Registration Link. “No late entries will be accepted, so we are encouraging anyone interested in attending to make sure they get registered by the September 2 deadline,” stresses Duczek.

The event will feature a two-day format with riders competing on a set one-minute course. More than 60 athletes are expected, showcasing everything from stylish surf tricks and high-flying airs to the dynamic and unpredictable world of foiling, where riders can glide silently above the surface or send massive flips and spins.

Foiling is one of the fastest-growing water disciplines worldwide, combining surfing, wakeboarding, and kiteboarding influences. Its reintroduction into Nationals highlights Canada’s growing interest in the sport and provides athletes with a national platform to showcase their skills.

Beyond the action on the water, the Nationals will deliver a festival-like atmosphere on the beach at Koocanusa Village. A food truck will be onsite both days, beach games will keep families entertained, and fans can follow the action on a livestream broadcast on shore. Saturday evening will feature a community dinner for riders, volunteers, and fans.

“We’ve had spectators lining the course and cheering the riders on from both land and water and we’d love to see a beach full of people again this year,” says Duczek. “Bring a lawn chair, go for a boat demo, and enjoy the music, food, and fun as we celebrate the wakesurf community and support all the riders.”

The Canadian Nationals follow the success of the BC Provincial Championships, held at the same location in mid-August. That event set the tone for an exciting summer on Lake Koocanusa, and organizers are confident Nationals will draw an even larger crowd, helping cement the lake’s reputation as a premier venue for wakesports in Canada.
