Fernie Alpine Resort has announced its summer plans, sparking excitement among summer enthusiasts as the Timber Chair will be in operation for Summer 2024. The resort shared its enthusiasm, revealing that multiple lifts (yes, that’s plural!) will be operational this summer for lift-accessed biking, hiking, and sightseeing. Opening Day is set for Saturday, June 22, just a few months away.
The Timber Chair will be open for biking, hiking, and sightseeing on Saturdays starting July 13th, along with select Holiday Weekend Sundays. Providing access to advanced/expert technical downhill terrain and offering breathtaking alpine hiking and sightseeing opportunities, the Timber Chair experience will be enhanced by the Lost Boys Café, hosting Music On The Mountain events on Saturday afternoons.
Other notable highlights include the daily operation of the Elk Chair, with extended hours on Thursdays. This lift will grant access to downhill bike trails suitable for all skill levels, as well as a diverse range of hiking trails and the Nature Bob’s Interpretive Centre. Excitingly, this summer will introduce the Elk Grove Forest Playground, a ground-level adventure playground located at the top of the Elk Chair, promising a unique and thrilling experience for families and children.
Bike races are set to make a return with the Fernie BC Cup/Canada Cup DH Race (Dunbar Summer Series) on July 6 & 7, alongside the popular weekly Race Series. This year’s schedule will feature races for Youth, Adults, and Masters on Thursday Nights, with Kids races on Wednesdays and a new category, ‘Intro to Racing,’ tailored for newcomers. For those new to racing, the Downhill Development Series offers a welcoming environment suitable for all ages, providing an enjoyable introduction to the world of racing.
The resort’s Summer Mountain Adventure School will continue to offer favorites such as Kids Mountain Adventure Camps, Kids Freeride Bike Camps, Adult DH Clinics, and Specialty Guided Hikes, ensuring a summer packed with excitement for all ages.
