Park Place Lodge
new winter

It’s the first day of new winter.

Victoria Street is ankle deep in snow. A mid-shin berm runs down the middle of the street where cars pushed the piles snow out of the way. The city workers were clearly surprised by the sudden onset of snow.

My cat refuses to go outside anymore.

At 8:30 this morning a steady stream of cars, lights on in the early morning half-light, lemming-like, motored toward the hill.

Snow continues to fall in true Fernie Fashion. A couple inches an hour. Straight down. No wind. Piling high on branches and phone lines. Burying the debris, the trash on the streets.

The world is new again.

Fresh. White.

Everyone is smiling because the hill is open. Anticipation electrifies the air downtown.

The Griz is gone. Only a touch of his measure rises above the snow at 10:15 in the morning.

And it’s St. Patty’s day.

What more could we need?

Maybe this is a re-set to remove the last couple weeks.

Undisturbed, let’s simply continue on undisturbed.
