    Hi,

    check out fernietots.webs.com

I can do just that rate, if you can be flexible on which 2 days. Quality doesn’t change because price is low. I would have to pay my bills in my home regardless of babysitting or not, so I keep them low. I also know what it’s like to be a parent looking for child care. Turns out a lot of parents don’t get to work, because working minimum wage is hard when your only making 25% or less of your own pay check, between taxes and childcare. I started babysitting in Fernie because there was no reasonable child care for my kids, cheapest babysitter was 14 bucks an hour, and the job I found was only going to pay me 15… working for 1 dollar an hour didn’t seem worth it to me, especially after taxes come off, I’d be taking from my husband’s paycheck to cover the sitter. But while babysitting a couple kids at a time I can make a little mad money, and get to stay home with my own children. Flexible space is available for people in Fernie, so give it a check out, and let me know what you think.

You provide diapers and foods.. I provide warm safe place for your child to learn and grow.

    Cheers,

    Tina.

Have they checked with the Hotel for Playpens? Every time I have travelled, I have requested one.. and the hotel provides them free of charge. Best of Luck.

Still have the pool table and bed. If anyone is interested please feel free to contact me. The pool table does not have any accessories, I never got around to actually setting the table up, and using it. It’s 4×8 footer.

    cheers,

    Tina.

Also, I am looking for a used fridge. Under 100 dollars or free. I’ll pick it up. However it must be in working condition.

Have you looked into the boarding program at the Humaine Society in Cranbrook? It’s really cheap, they walk your dogs, take care of them, and house them as a fundraising project for the Humaine Society. I think it’s close to 8 dollars a day. Just in case you can’t find someone to watch your dogs.

    Cheers,

    Tina.

Wow, you make Fernie sound like a horrible dis-functional place. I have to admit I like it here, it’s been over a year and everything is great. Scenic views, decent people, and I have yet to see ONE person use any form of hard drugs.(No, I’m not naive and think it’s perfect. There probably are some.. ) There may be the occasional pot smoker, but they are harmless. I have 3 children ages 2-6 and I want them to live here. Because we moved from a place where there was drugs and insane people in most places. (Toronto)

40% of the homes are empty… because the winter crowd is dispersing. Summer is a great time to move to Fernie. There are lots of stores and shops still open, and Cranbrook is less than an hour away where there is even more.(Winners, Walmart, Superstore,Safeway; and most banks that are not here in town) The elementary school here (IDES) is going great. There is a new Daycare opening up…come to the soccer field and you’ll see over 50 3-4year olds playing timbits soccer. There is a great amount of families that live here.

I imagine you and your three kids would fit right in.

    Cheers,

    Tina

Have you tried Elk Valley Job Seekers? Or applying to places with a resume and a cover letter stating which type of employment you are looking for and the hours you are available until summer? I know that’s what I did when I was in high school.

    Best of Luck.

on ferniepets.ca there is a border collie, 7 months old looking for a home. There are a few other dogs too, they are around 1-2 years old. If not, the Cranbrook SPCA always has dogs for adoption. http://www.spca.bc.ca/EastKootenay/

    hope these help.

I understand about the daycare shortage, and since I have younger ones of my own, I had started a day-home here in Fernie. Putting my 3 kids in the "resort daycare" would run me close to 3000.00 a month at their 49.50 a child rate. Not sure what kind of employment I could get that I could cover that, and make money of my own. I currently have space for 2(at $5.00 an hour)… but no biters yet.

Housing is ridiculous here.. unless you have a minimum mortgage allowance of 4-500,000 you really can’t buy a house. I’ve been looking. Anything selling for less than that are shacks that would require extreme renos or worse a tear down and rebuild.

I still love Fernie and have no intention of leaving. We have a lot of friends and family here. We found a decently priced rental.. best time of year was April-June to look for the house since all the winter folks had left, as far as renting property goes.
