I get a little disappointed when the Albertans go home. I miss the can do positive attitude. The attitude that looks for a solution, a way to get things done, rather than look for excuses and reasons to not do, or not even try. A good number of Fernieites have this same positive attitude, unfortunately they are shouted down by what I believe is a loud and fear creating minority. A minority that creates false reasons for what may ill our town. Thus others becomes the scapegoat for what the town will not do.
Luckily we have a summer season that the Albertans have really begun to embrace. Our mountain biking is attracting those who own ski homes and condos. Those who without the bike trails would never visit except in winter. Ask some of the businesses in town. Many would not exist without the extra customers. Businesses providing goods and services that we would not get otherwise.
mtnratParticipantOverkill is the order of the day when it comes to roofing in Fernie. If ya don’t it WILL leak.
mtnratParticipantThere was a lot of work done on this in the past. Even had a public committee IIRC. Terry Nelson was the city representative and did a whole pile of work on the project. Might want to talk to him and see what happened. Seems to me there was a cost sharing issue with RCR, RDEK and the City, but don’t quote me on that.
mtnratParticipantThe latest on this.
Sensored by a threat from Sunshine Villages lawyers
mtnratParticipantI have been following this very closely. It looks very bad on the ski area. I understand the people let go are pursuing wrongful dismissal cases. BTW Ryland your comment has nothing to do with this thread.
mtnratParticipantIf they were going to use an insider, they could of at least used Robin Siggers, who has been here about as long as Griz.
mtnratParticipantcough, cough, cough… bshi…
mtnratParticipantI wish it was true. Terrible Terrible Terrible medium.
mtnratParticipantOne thing that I would do is Ice Guard or shield…, the WHOLE roof and double up any valleys for two courses. Well worth the extra cost in our climate, which happens to be one of the most difficult to deal with water and ice on roofs. This may be seen as overkill by many in the industry, but overkill has kept water out of houses where average practices have failed.

Check the fishing shops.mtnratParticipantUhm, it will snow and it will not, and it will be good and it will not. BTW there is no real way to get tickets at a discount that I know of.
mtnratParticipantI see on ferniepets.ca that Lucy is back at home. Anyone know the story? Amazing how hard that dog was to get found.
mtnratParticipantSomebody reported seeing her by the TD bank on Nov 18 at about 1:30pm. Do not know if they tried to catch her. Sounds like she is beginning to hang closer to town. Keep your eyes open and lets catch and get this dog to her owners.
mtnratParticipantGot this much on my picnic table so far. Over 60cm Pretty dry stuff, so not really great for making a good base, but I sure won’t complain.
mtnratParticipantYou got it mikes. More hypocritical behaviour. I am actually getting tired of it. Goes like this… "live in high density, you know smart growth. It does not matter that I live in a detached home/acreage/hobby farm. Second homes are evil, it does not matter that I have a place in the interior, at the lake, or over seas. We need to create dense walkable communities, even though I drive my kids to school, hockey, skiing, dance, soccer etc." The best line I heard lately as an excuse for this behaviour was, "Because I can." That is the type of thinking that runs rampant amongst those that want to socially engineer society.
