Examples of GREED in this valley are no different than Western society as a whole.
With RBC stating that homes are 50% overvalued in Western Canada we could see our materialists cake crumble. So sad, boo hoo!
leftcoastParticipantI never understood the true meaning of “Tourist Season”
Canadians are guilty of assuming that we have higher standard of rights and social order than those of Montana or Mexico.
We don’t.
Guns, fists, knives, and tazers define power in Canada. Watch for the pot-holes.
leftcoastParticipantPerhaps I should have stated that “Fernie’s not Whistler” however the roads are equally as dangerous! The dork is another topic.
The locals are not the cause, the visitors are.
Locals don’t tolerate abusive behaviour. City folk give and receive abusive behaviour every day just to get down the street or into the transit. Some practice such behaviour in Fernie, with dire consequence.
Think again, adjust your behaviour, education and awareness is everything.
Returning to the “tall buildings” with having had a positive experience is in the cards of the visitor.
Remember “Fernie’s not Whistler”!
leftcoastParticipantOh, the opposite Timber.
My point is that tourists have to be aware of the attitude and risks inherent with a mining town.
The Calgary lads might have walked away had they understood the risk.
Fernie’s not Whistler!
leftcoastParticipantAsk the two Calgary lads who had their faces severely rearranged at the Royal this Friday past. Respect the locals…
That dumb shit timber!
leftcoastParticipantEveryone is listening however the deals have already been made. In typical form the developers and politicians will win $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
How many of their fat asses do you see on mtn bikes?
My prediction is that Cedar Valley and Lizard Creek will be closed for mtn biking before Ridgemont. The righteous crew at Wildsight will be locking the gates as quickly as possible. THE NCC has already locked theirs!
Interesting facts on Fernie:
?ǂĢ 40 % homes empty and growing
?ǂĢ decrease in population of 800 in past 5 yearsThis trend will continue to kill our community and nothing can stop it short of Bin Laden or the Griz coming to the rescue!
leftcoastParticipantWhat do you expect? They are a group of self serving individuals looking for a greater purpose.
Having said that, considering a 60% raise, one would be foolish to entertain the role?
leftcoastParticipantInteresting post however what’s the connection with a Fernie Council Member?
leftcoastParticipantre, what the f**k is a DMO?
leftcoastParticipantA large fire would produce the best glade skiing this valley has offered since 1908.
February 16, 2007 at 4:28 am in reply to: Bill Bennett resignation On Wednesday, February 7, 2007 #15087leftcoastParticipantI agree that the only people wanting the mine are a few greedy politicians and business people however, by in large, locals did not want a a park in the Flathead either.
Those favouring the Park were a few American influenced ($$) Wildsight supporters and Fernie business folk who envy Banff’s summer Tourism. The business assumption was that the Park would draw more European’s and Urban folk.
Fernie will never be the nice community it once was regardless of what the politicians and big business dictate. Social rot continues with rising housing prices, absentee home owners, closing schools and low paying jobs.
leftcoastParticipantThe DMO is a tool for big business and the proposed directorship of the organization will keep them at the wheel indefinitely.
Small businesses will benefit however not to the extent that the fat cats will. Fernie Lodging Co and Fernie Alpine Resort are poised to reap the rewards of their political maneuvering.
They will argue that they are paying the most and should have control. What happened to democratic representation?
Say NO to the proposed directorship of the DMO. Lets not let the fat cats further use our resources to their benefit.
