I will never gamble again! I will bet you $10 bucks I don’t.
anyway…had to say it.
griz-boyParticipantSo are we in the play-offs? Saw the Friday game we lost but a good scoring game.
griz-boyParticipant5 bars/pubs downtown and the Griz Bar at the resort. The girls are rockin it just as good as the guys! Bands are usually posted on posters thought out downtown, daily drink specials. Really you can make it as good of time as you want it.
griz-boyParticipantNothing straight about that.

griz-boyParticipantYou wouldn’t expect that behavior from a Cher fan.
griz-boyParticipantEvolution Fitness, it has most of what you need to work out. Free weights, cardio and weight machines, fitness classes and tanning. Beside Fernie Sports.
griz-boyParticipantAbsolutely YES!!!
We do have one vet in town, but is really really bad! He must be burnt out or unmotivated to do better because he is the only one in town. I have only had to go to him once to never want to return again.
Myself and friends as well take our pets to Cranbrook about an hours drive away, they are excellent vets. Blairmore I have also heard has a good vet. On occasion we drive up to Calgary for yearly shots.
I would save alot of time if there was someone good in town. We also lost our pet store this summer. We could use a place to get misc supplies. Again Cranbrook or Calgary for dog food.
griz-boyParticipantgriz-boyParticipantHere is the link:
http://www.fernie.com/services/sporting_goods.htmlbut The Guides Hut doesn’t sell anything to do with snowboarding.
I like Edge of the World because they got Burton, Gnu, and Lib Tech. My 3 favorite board companies. And the largest selection of board gear in Fernie. And they board so you won’t get a skier selling you a new deck. Giving you no more then what the brochure says, they get to ride there demo boards.
griz-boyParticipantFree elk meat at your door. HA
Yah so anyway when will the interest rates go up? That’s the big question. I locked in a couple years ago in fear that they would go up that year, two years later and only minimal increases. But for the new home owner if the rates do go up sharply housing prices will go down, a good time to buy if you have a large sum of money. Now that theory that can be applied to cities like Calgary but if it would happen in a small market like Fernie is to be yet determined.
Prices right now are way to over inflated. From last year, prices increased by 35%.
Rental income is also a factor you might be deciding to purcahse a home with a suite for a little more than one without. I can be rented out for 5 months of the year if not year round which helps pay for the overall morgage. Its the old saying make your money make money.
Besides an investment I think the question is, where do you want to live to fit your lifestyle?
I am getting off topic but hope it helps you. I decided to buy in town for my own reasons.
griz-boyParticipantI think elsie was talking about expansion and not skier visits. Resorts are opening up new or newer lifts and opening up new terrian at a faster rate then FAR can develop a Kokanee deck, restucture management, and doze a pipe.
But I sure hope FAR increase visits each year and I hope they don’t forcast a drop in visits if they do they are not in the right business.
With projected resorts in Revelstoke and this Jumbo and all the expansion in Whistler and Golden the goverment is pushing, there really is no edge. Damn even COP got a new lift this year I am sure they are breaking records in lift sales too.
griz-boyParticipantOf course its comparable, as simple as this:
“Am I taking my family on a 7 day holiday to Whistler or Fernie?”
It can be compared on all levels, service, price, snow conditions, line-ups, parks and pipes etc. There you go comparison. Just because Whislter is the big dog doesn’t mean its judged on a level of its own.
griz-boyParticipantOf course a pipe isn’t going to make money but its a feature that a mountain resort has as a desiding factor for tourists to come to Fernie. Not everybody is a powder skier and some perfer grooms. If we did have a Super pipe maybe we could get a FIS event in Fernie, create exposure, in turn new revenue and more tourism. Park rats need parents and the parents need a place to stay and eat and retreat $$$. While they order room service and rack up the rents Visa.
Look at Whistler, it has something for every flavour of tourist. You don’t have to be satified with what FAR decides to doze the pipe or feel like they are doing us a favour in opening later then last year or charging full price for 3/10 lifts.
Hey no snow is making me crabby!
griz-boyParticipantOne thing to consider is that Telus has the worst customer service hands down! And it’s not a isolated problem. I think everybody knows about it even the CRTC.
You should at least know this since you will be new to BC.
