im in.
gavitronParticipantThose pictures brought back alot of memories. My friends and I learned how to smoke and drink beer in that junk yard. There even used to be sketchy portable living quarters thing there (might still be there) where you could bring your girlfriend for a little romance on lunch break. We should declare it a Fernie heritage sight, build a path thru it, maybe a couple benches and those neat little information boards that can explain the history of the junk.
I’m just kidding. Lets clean it up and build more affordable housing. I think first on the list shoud be having the 901 guys get the old soccer field back in shape. Even with the new development it looks like we’re taking steps backwards down there.gavitronParticipantshuffle
gavitronParticipantI dont own a dog mostly because I have no desire to clean up after one, yet every time I do yard work in my own yard, I’m cleaning up after them. As far as I’m concerned the dog owners might as well do their business on my lawn as well because its just as disrespectful. Judging by their total disregard and ignorance, Im left to assume this is something they would actually do. Funny thing is I know which dogs are doing it, yet have never seen an owner in site. I guess they let their dog out with a "out of sight, out of mind" attitude. Im also left to believe that they think cleaning up after a dog isn’t even an issue as dogs are decent animals and don’t sh*t where they eat.
PS- Is it the dog poop thread time of year again ALREADY?
gavitronParticipantWith any luck the culprit was Canadian and went for a hell of a ride the first time he had to hit the brakes.
gavitronParticipantThis is a copy of "Sledder1"’s reply from another forum:
I would like to reply to the post regarding Trespassers. I was one of the sledders of which you write. Yes i am one of an original group of four that found a route into that area about twenty years ago. I have been to many many other areas that sledders generally do not go to as well. We go to those areas for the same reason that you do not stay on the ski hill. However we have not been in that area for about five years. I was also on the original "negotiating" team that helped designate Tunnel Creek, and Fairy Creek as not open until after March 15. I / WE WERE NOT AWARE THIS AREA WAS INCLUDED IN THAT DESIGNATION. If we were we would not have been there. We were there the weekend before as well and went right to the top of Polar Peek when the freestyle comp. was on. We certainly would not have done that if we knew it was closed. And we did not do any damage other than putting some tracks in the snow. One snow fall = tracks gone. As to the particular day in question your statements are very skewed. I do not believe you heard sleds for two hours because we were where you met us for at least two hours. We were not "hiding". It was so foggy and dangerous that we went into the trees and built a fire to cook sausage etc. for lunch. We were there a good two hours. At least one hour before you came out of the fog above we heard your group. You did not see us. We walked out of the trees to see you. One of the girls from your group saw us and told you. You and a couple of others ridiculed her and asked her if she were on crack etc… She pointed us out several times and I finally called out … then you saw us. Also from your conversation you did not really know where you were going "I think that is Easy Street etc." were some of the comments. When you and the group skied down to us you were immediately rude apon seeing the sleds. I told you i had a map and said lets look at it to see if it is open or not. I had picked up a map in the morning (SRMMP) but at 1:150,000 I misstook where the closure line was. I wanted to look at the map with you but you were rude and said no… you then skied about 20m away and were rude, and swore at us etc. before strting to leave. Yes i then asked for your camera etc and was mad as well. I want to say one other thing as well. THE REST OF YOUR GROUP WAS NOT RUDE, THEY WERE CORDIAL AND UNDERSTANDING, very polite as a matter of fact. I offered for your group to use our fire. I told you the exact route to take to get to the Thunder Meadows cabin in very thick dense fog. You led your group from the ski hill into an "out of bounds" area in very dangerous foggy avy conditions. Had there been an incident none of you would have been rescued, except if we could have known or helped. Ask any of the other members of your group about what i have said above. It is all true. If you had not been so confrontational this would not have gotten out of hand. I want to say one other thing to the backcountry skiers… This was a misunderstanding … I HAVE BEEN GOING TO THE AREA FOR YEARS AND TRULY THOUGHT IT WAS STILL OPEN. IT WAS NOT. WE WERE IN THE WRONG TO BE THERE AND WILL NOT RETURN UNTIL WELL AFTER IT IS OPEN. I ALSO SINCERELY APOLOGIZE TO THE TWO GROUPS OF SKIERS WE ENCOUNTERED OVER TWO WEEKENDS. I realize we are all back country users and should work together. Again we were wrong to be there when we were and apologize.
gavitronParticipantI think its worth paying for. You get weekly news specific to the area and its only $1. Its not their fault that there is hardly ever any exciting news in these parts. If it was more than $1 my opinion might be different. I don’t think comparing it to the Fernie Fix is a fair comparison. I do often wonder why it still has FREE printed right on the front. The Fernie Press might be less confusing and more appropriate.
gavitronParticipantMaybe we need to change the name of "Polaris Bowl"? Just sayin. I agree, lets share the back country.

gavitronParticipantI like the idea of bringing your own bags. You gotta admit plastic disposable ones are adding a ton of trash to our planet. They’re only used from the store to the parking lot to your kitchen then tossed out. I think going back to paper bags may have been a more reasonable option tho. Maybe they’re too expensive. Why would you get something free if it scanned wrong? I would expect to get it for the price I thought it was when I grabbed it off the shelf….but free? That seems pretty irrational and unjustified. That said, if they wanna give it to me free, I’d take it. All in all I don’t mind Extra Foods. Its not like I go in there expecting 5 Star treatment. I appreciate that they stay open till 10, thats been handy on more than 1 occasion. The staff stay pretty low key, but I don’t often need someone else to discuss my food options with me. Meat, milk, bread, cookies….I’ve pretty much got a grasp on the whole survival thing. I’ve been caught in a line up there occasionally but I wasn’t aware of any new rules stating that line ups are to no longer exist. Haven’t they always been a part of shopping? Its great when I don’t have to wait in line, but I don’t expect my own personal cashier awaiting my arrival at the tills. More times then not I’d say its customers checking they’re reciept, double checking it, getting the cashier to call for a price check, trying they’re debit card 10 times before they’ll accept that its not working and "have no idea why" then counting out a confusing amount of bills and change that the cashier has to recount to verify before ringing it in to their till just so they can get a nickel instead of 2 pennies, then double checking their bags to make sure they didn’t forget anything…that contributes to slow line ups. As for pricing, Fernie IS a tourist trap so Fernie has tourist trap prices. When I get sick enough of it, I’ll move somewhere more rational. There is always room for improvement and I agree the people in charge decide whether or not to act on that. Time will tell….
gavitronParticipantRollin on 34s! Nice! That’ll be a 34 inch tire on a 16 inch rim
gavitronParticipantI just drove by, she still has it. call her up!
gavitronParticipantIts been brought to my attention that some people are actually having difficulty getting on EI and really do need it. I’d imagine the abusers are to blame for this as well as the EI people are having to try to keep everything legitiment. Maybe there should be strict penalties for people caught making stuff up…something to discourage them from doing it.
gavitronParticipantI’m an employer and it got my attention. That said, I’d guess her post has served its purpose. Nothing wrong with being creative.
gavitronParticipantThanks for all the interest! I am still looking (Feb 7). I need people using DRAW or Illustrator! I can not stress this enough! Yes I can convert your photoshop files and yes, its costs me a lot of money to get someone else to sit there and re-draw everything in to a program that works and no, I don’t want to have to do that. No photoshoppers, sorry guys.
