Susan Clovechok and Roberta Schnider have been acclaimed to lead the Regional District of East Kootenay Board as RDEK Chair and Vice Chair for the coming year, marking a leadership transition following the retirement of longtime Chair Rob Gay.
Electoral Area F Director Susan Clovechok takes over as Board Chair from Gay, who held the position for the past 15 years. Clovechok previously served as Vice Chair from 2021 to 2025.
“I am grateful for Rob’s leadership and learned so much from him over the years, particularly as we worked closely together during my time as Vice Chair. I will take those lessons forward with me in my new role,” says Clovechok.
“Our Board has developed a reputation across the Province for the respectful, effective way we work together around the table. As we welcome many new faces, I look forward to building on that tradition and continuing the strong, respectful working relationships that define this Board.”
Roberta Schnider Returns as Vice Chair
Electoral Area G Director Roberta Schnider was acclaimed to a second term as Vice Chair.
“I am grateful for the support of the Directors and the confidence they’ve placed in me as Vice Chair. I have a strong working relationship with Chair Clovechok and am looking forward to working with the Board on behalf of the residents of our region,” says Schnider.
Rob Gay Retires After More Than Two Decades
The leadership change marks the first time since 2005 that Rob Gay will not serve on the RDEK Board. After 15 years as Chair, Gay has retired from public service and expressed confidence in the new leadership team.
“Susan will do an exceptional job as Chair, and she and Roberta will make a strong team. They both bring an incredible passion for the region, a wealth of experience and strong leadership. The RDEK is in good hands.”
Both acclamations took place during the RDEK Board’s annual leadership election.
