Want to go down in Fernie history? The Fernie Brewing Company announced this week that they are holding a local contest to name their newest beer.

“Since our identity and our products are so closely tied to Fernie, we thought opening up the naming of our newest beer to the public was a great idea,” says Murray Pask, Fernie Brewing Company. “Our Brown Ale will be launched in September, and we plan to premiere it at the annual Taste of Fernie.”

The winner will receive a prize of two days catskiing at Island Lake Lodge. The contest is open to all Fernie residents over the age of 19, and anyone interested in participating can fill out a ballot at participating establishments.

The contest closes May 31, and the Fernie Brewing Company plans to announce the winning entry shortly after.

The Fernie Brewing Company is excited about this latest product, adds Pask, and anticipate their new Brown Ale will be popular amongst specialty beer fans. Brewmaster Don Moore has already formulated the recipe for their latest premium product.

“Our Brown Ale is a soft, well rounded, and brewed with all British specialty malts and hops,” explains Moore. “It’s a malty, balanced brew with hints of chocolate and nutty undertones, and medium-bodied for total enjoyment.”

The Fernie Brewing Company revived Fernie’s history of great beer making in 2002, and is locally owned and operated. Their beer is brewed at their own microbrewery, with a combination of premium ingredients including high quality malted barley, imported hops, and fresh mountain spring water. They currently offer two products Legendary Lager and Griz Pale Ale, both available at retail liquor outlets and local restaurants and bars.
