Park Place Lodge

It’s that time of year when we float the Elk River and once again there is a dangerous Log Jam that is creating a hazard that could cause fatalities. How dangerous are log jams? All of Fernie’s river fatalities have been in log jams.

The log jam worth mentioning is north of the Fernie RV Resort, between Hosmer and Fernie and is so large it’s making the river impassable. Please do not attempt to float this section of the river – you must exit the river and walk the section around the log jam hazard.

Recreational floaters are strongly advised to access the river at the North Fernie Bridge and float through town.

90% of river fatalities in general are caused by entrapment and log jams are the number one entrapment hazard. Be safe on the river and don’t become a river statistic.
