This week in Fernie, river sports and other outdoor events are combined with community elements.
1. Fernie Raft Race
Get competitive in a team race from the North to West Fernie Bridge. Meet first at the Coal Creek Boat Launch and after head to the Bridge Bistro for refreshments and prizing. A portion of the proceeds is donated to the Fernie Whitewater Park.

2. Fishing in the Elk River
After the opening of the Elk River on June 15th, the river is prime for fishing as the hungry fish have just survived through winter and spawning. The river is home to pure strain cutthroat trout as well as bull, rainbow and bull trout. Visit one of the many fly fish operators in town to get outfitted for all your fishing needs.

3. Pottery Lessons
Try your hand at sculpting clay at the Art House during their weekly summer pottery lessons. A variety of crafts can be made including mugs, jugs and bowls. Registration can be made through the Art House.

4. Take a Hike
Fernie surrounding area offers some of the most diverse and beautiful hikes, ranging in difficulty. Some of the popular area hikes include the Cottonwood Interpretive Trail, Mount Fernie and Fairy Creek Falls. Island Lake and Fernie Alpine Resort also offer guided hikes throughout the summer.

5. Two – Person Team Golf Tournament
Fernie Golf and Country club presents the evening two-person alternate shot tournament. The event kicks off at 6pm, price includes green fees, meals and prizes.
