The Fernie municipal election will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2026, when residents vote to elect one mayor and six councillors. The elected mayor and councillors will serve a four-year term from November 2026 to November 2030.

The City of Fernie has appointed Kevin Allen as Chief Election Officer for the upcoming municipal election. Allen previously served as Chief Election Officer for the 2014, 2018 and 2022 municipal elections.

Allen takes on the role effective July 6, 2026. An election office will open at City Hall starting August 3, 2026.

City Council has also appointed Corporate Officer Lavinia McElwee, Deputy Corporate Officer Tricia Fichter and Chief Administrative Officer Michael Boronowski as Deputy Chief Election Officers.

Candidates have already announced their intention to run. Candidate nominations open September 1, 2026, and close September 11, 2026. Anyone considering running for office can review the Elections BC Candidate’s Guide to Local Elections here.
