Fernie Canada Day celebrations bring families, friends and neighbours together downtown to celebrate community, heritage and the people who make this place home.
Activities and entertainment are centred around City Hall and 2nd Avenue, creating a welcoming downtown gathering place for residents and visitors of all ages.
Canada Day has long been a popular day for Fernie to come together. It is a day for family, friendship, music, food, children’s activities and community connection. It is also a day to reflect on Canada’s history and the responsibilities that come with celebrating here.
Fernie is located within ʔamakʔis Ktunaxa, the homeland of the Ktunaxa people. Honouring that truth is an important part of gathering as a community. Canada Day is an opportunity to celebrate what brings people together while also recognizing the history, heritage and continuing presence of the people who have cared for this land for generations.
Fernie’s Canada Day festivities are organized by a collective of local service groups, including the Lions Club, Rotary Club, Fernie Elks Lodge, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #36 and the 3300 Club, working alongside the City of Fernie.
These groups help make the day possible. Their volunteer work supports the kind of celebration Fernie does best: local, friendly, family-oriented and rooted in community spirit.
Canada Day in Fernie is not just an event. It is a reminder that community is built by people who show up — volunteers, families, neighbours, local businesses and organizations working together.
That is something worth celebrating!
