Alexandar Zivojinovich (aka Alex Lifeson), guitarist for legendary Canadian band Rush, celebrated his 61st birthday yesterday. Alex was born in Fernie in 1953 to Serbian immigrants Nenad and Melanija Zivojinovich. He is ranked 98th in Rolling Stone Magazine’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time and third in the Guitar World reader’s poll of 100 Greatest Guitarists.
Rush, formed in 1968, is now comprised of three integral members: Alex Lifeson, Neal Peart and Geddy Lee. In 1996, all three members were awarded the Order of Canada, marking them the first rock band with all members to achieve this. The band was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
Happy birthday Alex!
