1. BYLAWS
1.1 Bylaw No. 2324 & Bylaw No. 2325 Council heard the first and second reading of Bylaw No. 2324 and Bylaw No. 2325. These bylaws were created to support the implementation of Short Term Rental regulation in the City of Fernie. Administration has developed a framework for regulating STRs such that it encompasses the Official Community Plan, the experiences of other communities, independent research, and the views expressed through community engagement. Council will hear from the public regarding the bylaws at a Public Hearing to be held during the Regular Meeting of Council on Tuesday, October 10.
1.2 Bylaw No. 2322 cited as Zoning Bylaw No. 1750, Amendment Bylaw No. 186 was adopted by Council. This amendment to the zoning bylaw will facilitate the continued development of the Montane area and allow for the subdivision of some lands into single-family residential lots.
2. COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE
2.1 Columbia Basin Trust – Climate Action Meeting Members of Council have been invited to attend a community meeting hosted by CBT. This meeting will help initiate projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and/or
adapt to climate change impacts.
3. OTHER INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
3.1Winter Shuttle The Resort Municipality Initiative has provided an additional $43,831 of funding to the City of Fernie for 2017. Council supported the allocation of this money to the Winter Shuttle Project to purchase two buses that will transport riders between the City and Fernie Alpine Resort during ski season.
3.2 City Trail Closures Residents are reminded that due to high fire danger ratings trails in the City (Old Stumpy, Cemetery Bypass, Montane Trail, Coal Creek Heritage Trail and Chamber Trail Head remain closed until an order to reopen is issued. Don’t miss the auto-extrication demo at 10:30 am and a high angle rope rescue demo at 1:30 pm.
