For the last few of days, high fashion on the mountain involved some form and manner of garbage bag. Rain, while not persistent, was pervasive. The kids didn’t care. The adults grumbled. The top, White Pass and the upper Bear, collected a few cm, but nothing to write home about. No Powder Alerts there.

When I left the hill late in the afternoon Friday snow fell straight down melting quickly as it hit the ground. There was a bit off promise. At midnight in town, wet snow fell, closer to rain than snow. The flakes carried hit the windshield, but immediately melted.

By morning life changed. Light snow blanketed town. Puddles were still puddles swallowing the flakes. Snow piled a few cm deep on cars and horizontal surfaces. On the Griz there was 35cm. The snow report declared 30cm. Bombs started at 7am.

All’s good in the Fernie hood!
