Jason Greenwell is the KIJHL Player of the Month
Now in his third season with the Ghostriders #31 Jason Greenwell was named as September’s KIJHL Player of the Month. When he was nominated for the award his stats were 7 games played, 94.84 SV%, 1.35GAA–photo 2008 Championship team Greenwell on left side –
Coach Will Verner “Jason Greenwell started off his final season with a very strong month of September. The most experienced player in the KIJHL recorded 6 wins, 1 OT loss in 7 games. His statistics have him at 1.35 GAA and 94.84%. Off the ice Jason is very active in the Fernie Community as he coaches Academy hockey 2 times per week and he takes a full course load through his home town college.”

Ghostriders 8 Creston 1
Ghostriders are now 7-0-0-1
The Ghostriders were in the win column again on Saturday night with an 8-1 thrashing of the Creston Thunder Cats. Eighteen different Riders had at least a point in this one as the coaches tried to not run up the score by playing everyone later in the game.
This Game was Close For Awhile
The Ghost out shot Creston 16-7 in the first but only Bond Hawryluk -left photo-could beat Sunny Gill. In the second Creston came to play and the shots were 15-14 Riders but the score was 3-0. The Thunder Cats were pretty good in the second and followed it up in the third with about four goals, only trouble was three went into their own net and the final was 8-1 for the Ghostriders.
At times Creston carried the play and for a while the outcome of the game was uncertain. The week before when Creston was here they had had the flu bug go through the team and lost 7-1 and looked terrible for the whole game, this week the Cats were alright until the third when they just fell apart. These guys could be trouble on their own ice, the Riders will find out Oct. 22.
A few game notes.
With a nice breakaway goal in the second on a good pass from Joel James, Tim Crawley -left photo-was the first star. Crawley also very quickly won his fight with Creston Captain Travis Ludwar….When Rider Matt MacDonald was cut open by Ken Johnstone’s stick #22 Zach Fridella took the instigator and fought Johnson….Kinda like that (he’s secretly a Canadian) …Nicest goal was when Jesse Niemi made a great pass to Matt MacDonald who was stationed in the slot and fired in the fourth goal making the score 4-1….Bond was the second star and Brendan Hawryluk was the third star in this game. The two brothers are both good solid players who punish the opposition and get points in most games. Bond had a goal and an assist while Brendan had 2 assists….I think I counted seven hits on one of Jordan Hirano’s shifts in the second period, the speedy center makes the Riders much harder to play against and his fight was pretty good until the end…
He wasn’t expected to be ready but D-man Mike Wiest –left photo-played his first game with the Riders on Saturday….Wiest made a few mistakes but also made several clever plays and he never panics. I’m willing to bet he ends up as one of the top defense men on the team and in the league….Wiest who is 19 played in Beaver Valley last year and was wearing an “A” on Saturday.
Defenseman Liam Gorges was also watching the Creston game from the stands and should be skating with the Riders this week in practice
