2025 Budget Process

The City of Fernie is set to launch the 2025 Budget process next week, inviting residents to participate in shaping the financial priorities for the coming year. Through a series of Special Budget Meetings, a public open house, and an online input opportunity, the City aims to ensure transparency and community involvement in its financial planning.

Each year, City Council and City Staff collaborate to develop an annual budget and a five-year financial plan, outlining how tax dollars, funding, and resources will be allocated. The budget is guided by Council’s strategic priorities, infrastructure maintenance and replacement needs, the continuation of essential services, and community-driven priorities.

The 2025 Budget Process will feature a series of Special Budget Meetings throughout late January and February, during which the draft operating and capital budgets will be presented to Council for consideration.

Community members are encouraged to follow the discussion and share their input through multiple engagement opportunities:

• Attend Special Budget Meetings on January 30, February 4, and February 12 at 6:30 PM at the Senior Citizen’s Drop-in Centre. These meetings offer a chance to learn more about the draft budget and the City’s financial priorities.

• Join the Public Open House on February 19, where residents can explore proposed projects for the year ahead and engage directly with City Staff and Council to discuss the budget in detail.

• Provide feedback online through the City’s survey and digital engagement platform.

The City of Fernie values public input and encourages all residents to take part in shaping the financial future of the community. Stay informed, get involved, and help guide the investments that matter most to Fernie.
