Back to the Fire Productions announced today that Teck has contributed $150,000 toward the development of the pilot episode of a series called Back to the Fire – In search of lost values that could change the world.
“Our show travels to magical locations, interviews prominent Indigenous leaders and records their unique stories and earliest teachings to help inform the leaders of tomorrow,” says Chief Gibby Jacob, Executive Producer. “We thank Teck for their generous support for this important project, and we invite other like-minded organizations to partner in producing our groundbreaking series.”

The six-episode travel documentary series profiles inspiring Indigenous leaders from Canada and around the world, who share their nation-rebuilding success stories on their ancestral lands. This modern chronicle is a rich exploration of varied oral histories and traditional teachings that will enlighten, entertain, and inspire audiences everywhere.
The pilot episode, now in post-production, features Chief Robert Joseph, Hereditary Chief of the Gwawaenuk First Nation, a longtime peacebuilder who has devoted his life to promoting reconciliation among Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples around the world.
The series was conceived by Chief Gibby Jacob and documentary filmmaker, Andy Keen. It is co-produced by Pieter Romer.
Chief Gibby Jacob is a hereditary Chief of Squamish Nation, widely recognized as one of the most influential Native leaders in Canada. He helped broker the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic games, the Squamish and Lil’wat legacies agreement, the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre in Whistler and the Señakw Development on Kits Point.
Andy Keen is an award-winning documentary filmmaker whose films have screened at international festivals and been broadcast on CBC, TMN, and TVO. He is based in Toronto.
Pieter Romer is an award-winning producer who comes from the Nisga’a wolf clan or Laxi’buu in Northern BC. He was a senior producer for the Indigenous current affairs series, CTV First Story, for fourteen years. He is based in Victoria.
