Chad Byers has assumed ownership of Island Lake Lodge, acquiring the 7,000-acre catski resort from Patrick Callahan, who previously partnered with Dan McDonald, the founder of Island Lake and a local resident of Fernie. Callahan and McDonald obtained the shares of Island Lake Holdings Ltd in 2005. Sadly, Dan passed away on February 11, 2015, due to complications from diabetic kidney failure.

The Fernie community welcomes this new investment and eagerly anticipates Byers’ involvement with this beautiful property and the town. When asked by the Startup Grind Team about his favorite pastime outside of work, Byers revealed that skiing is his passion, indicating that he will likely spend ample time catskiing in the future.

Byers’ love for skiing resonates with many in Fernie, making him a welcome addition to the community. His bio, posted by the Startup Grind Team, highlights his achievements as co-founder and General Partner at Susa Ventures, where he focuses on investments in various sectors. Originally from Silicon Valley, Byers pursued his passion for skiing, mountains, and the outdoors, eventually settling in Boulder, Colorado, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science.

Ranked 23rd on the Midas Seed List, Chad Byers is renowned not only for his investment acumen but also for his skiing skills.

The Fernie community is excited for his contributions to Island Lake and looks forward to his engagement in local activities. As the old Fernie saying goes, “I came for the powder and stayed for the summer!”

Welcome to Fernie, Chad, and happy skiing!
