The Fernie Ghostriders went into the Christmas break on a winning note December 19th with a 3-1 win over the Summerland sting. There was no scoring in the first period but that was only because the Sting’s Ben Vandervies stopped 16 shots, and several were hi percentage Rider chances. In the second rider forward Matt Woiken who was playing in his first ever Ghostrider game banged one in on a scrum in front of the net. The game was stopped for a few minutes after that as the players had to pick up the Teddy Bears that were tossed from one end of the ice to the other. Team Captain Scotty Traverse and Dave McIvor had the assists on the bear’s goal. A few minutes later Dave McIvor stole a puck and put in the top corner what would eventually be the game winner. With about eight minutes left Nick Kolodychuk scored for the Sting and the period ended with the Riders up 2-1.-photo Matt Woiken-

In the third Scotty Traverse, Joe Deluca and Torin Brusvin fought Sean Dinsmore, Morgan Krechel and Chris Fink after Dave McIvor was attacked by a bigger player and every one was kicked out. The Ghostriders went on the PK after the scrum and a couple of more times but Summerland couldn’t score. Karl Weberg from Tim Crawley and Chad Olson finally scored the insurance goal for the Riders so Lee Klapp went after Nick Kolodychuk for his cheap shot on McIvor earlier in the period.

707 Rider fans were entertained by the fireworks and Scotty Traverse, Sting forward Josh Primeau and Adam Taylor -photo- were picked a game stars. The Sting are in last place in their division but have a few pretty good players who were fun to watch and several 17 year olds with some talent.
In other Ghostrider news, Scotty Traverse, Dave McIvor and Karl Weberg are going to the All-Star game in Chase and Jordan Hirano and Evan Burgess are going to the Top Prospects game. Ghostrider coach Will Verner was also selected as the All- Star Coach-

Traverse, McIvor and Weberg are stars in the KIJHL and Burgess is a fluent skating 16 year old defenseman with promise. Hirano is a late birthday and just celebrated his 16th with his skates taped and a pie in the face December 10. No one works harder than this kid and no one finishes as many checks either.

The Ghostriders wish all the fans a Merry Christmas
