1. OTHER INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
1.1 Backyard Mechanical Request for Exemption – Floodplain Setback Provision of Floodplain Management Bylaw No. 1780 Council approved the request for exemption from the landowner who proposes to construct a building on Lot 18, District Lot 4136, Kootenay District, Plan 12864 (36 Shadow Road). The building is proposed to be sited 8.77 metres from the high water mark of Shadow Creek. Floodplain Management Bylaw No. 1780 states that 15.0 metres from the natural boundary of any other watercourse is specified as the floodplain setback. Due to the proposed addition being situated within the 15 metres floodplain setback of Shadow an exemption must be approved by the City.
1.2 Fernie Chamber of Commerce – Request for additional Funding for Griz Days Council resolved to support the Chamber of Commerce for their request for additional funding for Griz Days and directed the Chief Administrative Officer to draw up a partnering agreement and arrange for requisite advertising to allow the Chamber to undertake the additional activities for Griz Days to be funded through the Resort Municipality Tourism Incentives Investment Fund.
1.3 Discussion from the 2015-02-23 Committee of the Whole Meeting re: Public Washrooms in Downtown Fernie Council gave direction to staff to include the proposed downtown public washrooms in the 2015 Capital Projects under Leisure Services based on the criteria that it satisfies the requirements to be funded through the Resort Municipalities Incentives Investment Fund.
1.4 British Columbia Aboriginal Network on Disability Society re: BC Without Barriers – Assisting Aboriginal Individuals and Families Living with a Disability in British Columbia.
Council authorize and $200 expenditure from the Discretionary Grants Fund in support of the British Columbia Aboriginal Network on Disability Society “BC Without Barriers”

1.5 Weeds make Bad Neighbours! East Kootenay Invasive Plant Council (EKIPC) and the RDEK and its partners recently introduced the Neighbourhood Invasive Plant Program (NIPP). This program assists land owners and occupiers in managing Invasive Plant on their lands. For those who qualify, there are financial rebates available to offset the costs of control treatments. www.ekipc.com
Council directed staff to contact the RDEK to see if the City of Fernie would be considered a private land owner, and qualify for the rebate program.
1.6 Intersection of 9th Street and Highway #3 – Pedestrian Lights
Council gave direction to staff to contact the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) following concerns raised by citizens regarding the effectiveness of the newly installed lights.
